In addition to training the AI Course assistant on your Syllabus and a Q&A file, you can train the AI Course Assistant on your existing eClass content so that students can ask questions about the material. The AI will be trained on all compatible selected documents, and from there, answer students questions. The quality of the output will be only as good as the input, therefore it is important to screen the data going in, making sure there are no errors, misleading information, or outright conflicting points. As with any AI tools, the accuracy of AI-generated responses may vary
Any content trained here will also serve as a selection option for students to learn more about if you choose to enable the AI Learning Assistant for students.
Only the following modules are supported for training:
- Announcement Forums: Course announcements
- Pages: Static course pages and content
- Text and Media Areas: Embedded content in topics
- Books: Multi-page book resources
- Files: Uploaded documents and resources
- Folders: Organized file collections
- Glossaries: Term definitions and explanations
Only the following file types are supported for training:
- Documents: .docx, .pdf, .txt, .html, .rtf, .md, .odt
- Presentations: .pptx
- Spreadsheets: .xlsx, .csv
- Audio: .mp3, .wav, .m4a
- Video: .mp4
Important: Once course materials are trained, content is visible to students regardless of whether the content is hidden for them on the eClass course homepage (whether through restrictions or hidden). The window for training will indicate which content in the list is currently hidden from students.
How to select content for training
If you haven't already added the AI Course Assistant block we suggest starting with this article Getting started with the AI Course Assistant first.
- Click Train Course Content in the AI Course Assistant block
- Review and select the course material to be trained on and click Train selected content
Note: If the trained file has an error badge, delete the file and reselect it to retrain. If the error persists, check the file format and content for issues.
Training Best Practices
- Gradual training: Add content progressively rather than all at once
- Quality content: Ensure uploaded materials are current and accurate
- Regular updates: Whenever you update a module that is already trained, the system automatically retrains the AI assistant to include the latest information
